The Seating Clinic at Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute offers a comprehensive evaluation to determine the appropriate seating cushion and wheel chair for anyone who requires them. Sister Kenny therapists are well qualified with over 15 years of experience in determining appropriate wheelchairs and cushions for individuals and use the latest technology, including the Xsensor Pressure Mapping System that uses sensors and computer technology to accurately provide a cushion analysis for wheelchair seats.
A comprehensive evaluation is performed by a physical therapist, occupational therapist and an equipment nurse specialist to addresses the following:
skin integrity
edema
sensation
range of motion
muscle function
muscle tone
pelvis tilt
spine alignment
seating balance
transportation needs
accessibility of the home
assistance available at home.
The team will make a recommendation and write up a justification for your insurance company. You may try out the wheelchair and cushion for up to five days at home
to determine whether it will work for you. Sister Kenny staff does not fabricate custom cushions or wheelchairs, but works with several organizations that perform
custom work.
Staff at Sister Kenny work with many different wheelchair vendors and will be happy to work with your vendor if you have one identified.
